Mergers & Acquisitions Fall Again in CEE

The number of mergers & acquisitions in Central & Eastern Europe has fallen for the fourth consecutive year according to statistics from law firm CMS, in conjunction with EMIS.

According to the report, there were 2,138 deals carried out in 2015, 3% down on the previous year.

The value of the deals carried out fell further. €53.5 billion worth of M&A deals were completed last year, representing a fall of 15% from 2014 statistics.

The highest year of mergers and acquisitions in Central & Eastern Europe was 2011 where 3,792 were completed, worth a total of €150 billion.

Poland in particular has remained strong despite a fall in business confidence in the country. Whilst Russia fell considerably, it still represents 35% in terms of value and 32% in terms of number of deals at 683 last year.
