Warsaw’s second airport, Warsaw Modlin, has experienced record passenger numbers for the month of July.
The airport managed 243,000 passenger for the month, an increase of 60% on the same period last year.
There were 1,400 takeoffs and landings at the airport in July, according to airport statistics.
At present, Ryanair is the only airline to operate from the airport. This follows Wizz Air’s withdrawal of its aircraft following concerns of safety regarding the airport’s runway.
Ryanair are expecting to fly 2.5 million passengers to and from the airport this year, 45% more than last year.
As a result of the airport’s rapid increase in passenger numbers, there have been calls for an expansion program for the once military airport.
Ryanair added two routes this summer to the 30 already in operation. Athens and Lisbon routes were opened with Cologne, Malaga and Gothenburg to come in the winter.
